Just anticipating something Joel said about the poster and the character of Caroline: Caroline is one of the strongest, most frustrated women in theater. I think the content of her character--brilliant rage--draws people to this show. I was saddened and amused by the clueless way the stepmom tries to deal with Caroline. Caroline, when she has power, as she does over the stepmother, uses it to show her pride...I can't wait to see the DC show.

Editor's Note:

DC Theatre Reviews recognizes that many of our readers travel to NY to see shows. It is our goal that NY folks come to DC to see theatre. It is our mission to promote DC Theatre exclusively. While that may change at some point but not until DC theatre companies are thriving.

What a great article. Saw the show yesterday and this article definitely set the mood for me. Love your sense of humor. I was and continue to be the punster in my family. I hope you will do some columns on NYC shows. Could use your advice on what shows to see. I have a trip to NYC coming up in August. Tom

Hi Wil. Glad you enjoyed the article. Maybe they'll write a musical about your life. I hope your Mom smiled more than Caroline. I saw the first preview at Studio Theatre on Thursday night. I'm holding back on commenting about the production until my group, The Ushers, sees the show on May 28th and June 4th. I will tell you, however, that the show is cast very well and the voices are tremendous. Enjoy the show. Look for my comments in a later article in Theatre Schmooze. Joel

Thanks so much for this fine article, Joel. I love the show and it means allot to me, too. My mother was a maid in a Jewish home in Alabama and the family she worked for "adopted" us and treated us like an extended part of their family. They changed my life. Will be seeing the show next weekend. Wil
