You write, "The Gellman’s Chanukah Party fits beautifully into the mosaic and is riotously funny." I really think that's an exaggeration that suggests lazy writing on your part. The scene has lines that produce a chuckle but certainly nothing more.

I loved the story and left the theatre wishing it had been a play instead of a musical. There are so many great relationships that would have been so much richer had it been a play. Having to sing what should have been dialog at times diminished the impact of what was being said. It was well directed and Julia Nixon, Allison Blackwell and Trisha Thibodeaux are wonderful singer/actresses and Elmore James has a resonating presence that I wish could have been utilized more. Noah was played by the understudy who did a good job but was not up to speed with the rest of the cast. Sound issues etc.; I sat at house left and found the voices (other than above mentioned) to be difficult to hear because of projection (or acoustics) rather than the orchestra which seemed at a proper mix where I sat. However, at intermission I spoke to someone seated house right who said he could hardly hear any of the voices over the orchestra. The set was serviceable but certainly not LA in the 60's. The costumes were well thought out and the lighting neither added or nor detracted from the production. While I enjoyed the experience I left understanding why I never hear anyone playing (or even talking about the music from the show) and thinking "what could have been".

I saw the show several weeks ago and thoroughly enjoyed it, but even from far house left I thought that the orchestra at times overpowered the un-miked actors. Perhaps you could comment a little more in-depth about the other characters or design elements? I really enjoyed the podcast interviews and your review. I am using just a few excerpts from the podcast for my site Ms. Trisha Jeffrey, who played Emmie in the show. (<a href="http://trishajeffreyfans.tripod.com/" rel="nofollow">http://trishajeffreyfans.tripod.com</a>) I will give credit back to the interviewer, the person interviewed and this website, with a link. Thank you for your insight and opinion!

Enjoyed the play. Well done. Great acting, set. Everything fine - except I couldn't hear quite a bit of it. This was frustrating and din't do the cast any good, nor the audience.

This show featured many fine voices. It's a shame that anyone sitting in the right side of the section had some of the voices obscured by the loud and unbalanced orchestra music. Even if the performers weren't going to be miked, the orchestra sound should have been toned down for the right side and amplified through left side speakers. Anyone who hasn't already bought a ticket should avoide the audience right side.

Great review! The extensive review of Caroline's character and Julie Nixon's performance is almost a lesson in acting. Thanks.
