Dear Jack Muir: Whoever you are, thank you for adding your comments. I agree. I especially enjoyed newcomer Cappelletti as Effie. I hope we see more of her on D.C. area stages. I know it's not a good idea to single out one player in an ensemble. But I kept thinking: where did they find her? She's perfect. But the entire cast worked together well. Rosalind Lacy.

The Countess, as in Angel Street (see Gaslight) and Shadow of a Doubt, involves the fascinating relationship between ruthless man and taken-in woman. And Sunshine Cappelitti has a great time in her change from taken-in woman to woman taking-out-her-suitcases and leaving her psychologically disturbed, manipulative husband behind (or will she?). Jason Stiles is refreshing and never predictable as the twinkle-in-his eye artist, and it's fascinating to watch his flower wilt as he learns more and more about his friend John's warped behavior toward Effie. We watch his childlike grin become a honest child's disapproval. Steve Carpenter will give you the willies as he becomes more and more scared at the thought of losing Effie. There is a hint of domestic violence lurking in the corners of their domiciles, for we don't really know what "the young" Ruskin will do next. Carpenter is the Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde with the chemicals residing in his own mind, as they usually are in real life.
