Super Glossy!

After a phonecall with my director just now cementing our rehearsal schedule for the next (gasp!) 4 weeks, I can feel the panic set in. Here’s the thing: I am NOTORIOUS for not having my lines memorized. Last year I did a fundraising performance of “Normal-C” in NYC 5 days before Cap Fringe and I was not fully memorized during tech. I was calling “LINE!” during TECH!! What? Who does that to themselves???? I was fine the next night for the actual performance (in fact, I was brilliant, if I do say so myself), but it’s been the same story for many years: if it weren’t for the last minute, I’d never get my lines down.

And I’m performing my OWN SHOWS! What is my deal? Luckily, I am nipping this in the bud this year. I am not going to not know my lines. I will know them so well that I can do the show backwards or when the tech cues get messed up (as they inevitably will because I like my shows to be super tech-heavy and then spring them on my crew the night of tech rehearsal), I will be able to fly through the problems with grace and precision. Good goal, huh? This year’s experience is the real deal for me. I considered last year’s tour as kind of a trial. I took a show that I had written a few years ago, material I was familiar with (except for the actual lines), and made it my goal to sleep with one man in each city. This is true. There were only two cities. And I only achieved my goal in one. Whatever. This year, my goal is to actually get asses in my seats this year and MAKE MONEY! I might be able to do that by sleeping with people too, but something tells me my boyfriend wouldn’t be too happy about that. Actually, I think it is my actual boyfriend that tells me he would not be too happy with that. Aaaanyway, the bottom line is, I am letting go. Letting go of the stress, letting go of the idea that I won’t have enough money to rent a car and for gas and for food. And to pay my people. Letting GO. And I’m going to make some freakin’ money.
