The Trojan Women - in performance

⊆ July 27th, 2007 by gwen | ˜

Happy Friday! As the final weekend of Fringe dawns, we hope you can come check out our performances. Yesterday we had tech rehearsal in the afternoon and a show at 7 pm. Tonight we have a show at 5 pm, and Saturday at 4:30 pm!  We’ve been preparing and rehearsing for a long time, and are very excited to finally have an opportunity to share it with an audience.  More pictures and a tech play-by-play under the cut.

We arrived at the Source Theater just before 3 pm yesterday. Our venue manager, Taryn (sp?) was very helpful and informative, giving us a brief tour of the backstage area and dressing rooms. Everyone got into costume as Colin (our lighting designer) finished hanging and focusing the instruments with the help of Fringe tech staffers Brian and Amber. From 3:30 to 4:30 we did a speed-through with Linda running lighting cues, then Rachel helped us clean up the beginning and ending sequences.

After the tech rehearsal, we took a break for dinner. Our wonderful SMAD (Stage-Manager/Assistant-Director) Linda brought us a glorious buffet of homemade goodies including pasta salad, crab dip, home made guacamole, pitas & hummus, fruit, and homemade brownies. We even had some fresh berries that Wyckham had picked! It was delicious - and the break gave everyone a chance to relax and unwind before the show.

The house opened at about 6:30 for a 7 pm show. All of the actors hung out back behind the curtains in our flip-flops and slippers. Most of us perform the show barefoot, but the Source floors are grimy with years of accumulated dirt, and the backstage areas are dimly lit, so we don’t get barefoot until right before the show. We had a crowd of over 50 people on opening night. Source is much more intimate and close than the Round House Silver Spring space was. The run of the play felt pretty good - not much different than it has in rehearsal. Afterwards we hung our costumes and props backstage and said farewell to the space for the evening.

On a side note: I saw the Pabst and Popcorn Hour adaptation of Dr. Faustus last night, and it was one of the most awesome, hilarious, debauchery-filled evenings I’ve ever experienced. They have two shows left. Go!

“The Trojan Women” was a wonderful, wonderful production. I got to see the last run Saturday. It was a full house, and quite a number of audience members (men and women) were moved to tears by the scene in which the red headed girl loses her baby. The entire cast was wonderful.
