Passing Strange was far and away the best musical on Broadway this year. It was the most thought provoking and had a tremendous amount of heart. I know many of you hate to admit it, but "rock music" will eventually take over musical theatre. And by rock music I mean, in the style of John Larson, Lin Manuel, Stew and Duncan Sheik. And you better hope it does, otherwise in the next twenty years you can kiss musical theatre good bye! These are the shows that are bringing young people to the theatre. So sorry if it's not your cup-o-tea, but that's the future sweethearts.

After seeing the Passing Strange number performed on the Tonys show, somebody would have to pay me to see it.

I respect and admire Richard Seff tremendously. That said, I have a small quibble with his comments on "the Scottish play." I believe that Kate Fleetwood gave an outstanding performance as Lady Macbeth. Although he thought she was "too young, too slim" for the role, part of what made the production interesting was the different dynamic of the two lead characters. Instead of Macbeth being a still relatively young and ambitious general, this production consciously featured Patrick Stewart as a man who thought his opportunities had passed and who was urged on by his ambitious trophy wife. Understood in that context, I thought Kate Fleetwood was spot on both in casting and performance.
