Mr. Marmalade Cancelled as Companies Receive News of Severe Cutbacks

We are sad to report that the Firebelly Production of Mr. Marmalade due to open in October, has been cancelled. While there were several reasons, including illness within the cast, Firebelly producer Barbara Walthall told us, the final decision to cancel was made clear by an email received yesterday.  The flegling company was told their funding from the state of Virginia, which had already been pledged for the second half of their season, would be reduced by 82% due to state cutbacks.  ”It became clear that we needed to preserve our resources in order to do a quality production in the Spring.” Walthall continued.  Firebelly will produce Beth Henley’s Crimes of the Heart March 26 – April 19 at Theatre on the Run, Arlington Virginia.

The budget crisis means less money will be available to the entire theatre community – producing companies, playwrights, performers and creative staff, technical staff, and audiences alike.
