Robert Prosky was also a wonderful teacher. I was priviledged to take an improve class from him in the early 70's. It was a peak experience in my life. I saw and loved many of his performances at Arena, having been a faithful supporter and attendee during the 25 or more years I lived in Arlington. He will always remain in my heart as one of my favorite people on this earth.
Sincerely,

I did research (for a book) on one of Mr. Prosky's earliest TVers, "They've Killed the President Lincoln!", produced by David Wolper. So two years ago, in preparation for my May, '07 California vacation, I made an appointment with the UCLA Archives to see Wolper's files on that documentary, specifically hoping to learn if Wolper's historical consultant, Bruce Catton, in any way argued against the depiction of Lincoln's Sec. of War as being behind Lincoln's assassination. Prosky played Stanton in it.
The files revealed nothing of that nature, but the two hours spent at the Wolper Archives were, nevertheless, worthwhile. Four days earlier, while on a boat ride (I think it was on man-made Lake Meade), who should be seated across the aisle from me, two seats away, but Mr. Prosky and his wife! It was very weird, and after introducing myself I told him about my upcoming appointment. He agreed with me how weird that was. We had a nice little chat later, on dry land, and he gave me a few wonderful bits of information about how he prepared for that role. I think he enjoyed the moment almost as much as I did. We bumped into each other a couple of times within the next couple of days, while our mutual tours were still atthe same venues. He was so nice to me. I'll never forget it. I was so sorry to learn of his passing.

Thank you for all the information on Protsky. I am surprised no one has made mention, or maybe they have and I missed it, of the impressive production of Inherit the Wind at Ford's Theatre I saw Fall 2000 thru Footlights I thought about the Scopes trial with Robert Protsky playing the role of Matthew Harrison Brady vs. Henry Drummond. I had my preconceived idea of what to expect as conditioned by 1960 Stanly Kramer movie with Spencer Tracy playing Drummond and Frederic March playing Brady. I was blown away by the penetrating portrayal of Protsky, which made me forget any preconceived notions of what to expect. He was also terrific in the March-April 2008 production of Arthur Miller's The Price at Theatre J. He starred with his two sons. It is so recent it makes it
hard to believe Washington has lost such a treasure so soon. Thank you. He will be so missed by all, especially me. Holly Foss
