The 2009 TAP Follies offered us a splended and unforgettable production from the skillful comedy of "Broadway Baby" to the exquisite poignancy of "Out of My Mind" -- all with the backing of a world class orchestra. Bravo/Brava to each and everyone involved.

I saw this show, and thought it was the best. The production qualities were tops and the acting and singing were great. It was sad and it was fun. You don't see that very often. I keep thinking about it.

It was really fun to see Jack's thoughts. One of the wonderful things about theater is that creates a whole world that we get to inhabit and even the same words on a page and the same songs will render up different views and perspectives. The ways that two talented directors and their staffs can create a place for actors to unfold their wares has always been a fascination to me and this is a great example of how that can work to entertain all of us.

Thanks for the kind words about the design and the show. I really liked the article, I think its important to highlight continuity within community theater groups in this area…many people don’t realize the history that is behind most of these organizations…

Joel, thank you for this reflection on The Arlington Players and its productions of Follies. In reading it, I am touched by the rich legacy in the theater of which I have been a part. I enjoyed reading Jack and Mary’s reflections on his 1988 production and really appreciate their enthusiasm for the acting and design talent that they worked with. Jack noted that I was a part of the 1988 production, but unfortunately, I was not. I take it as quite an honor that he remembers me in that cast, for it was one of the best ensembles of DC talent ever assembled, so it is such a kind thought to be included in that group. I, too, am grateful for the rich and deep talent of the actors and designers with whom I collaborated on the 2009 production. One couldn’t ask for such commitment from the cast and such professionalism from the designers. Kudos to all and thank you for this remembering.

Thanks Joel for writing about Follies.I also think it's one of Sondheim's gems. I saw TAP's production and I agree with you. It was superb. I agree with Will Smith's comment.

Minor correction: the line should read: "...Slowly, and elegantly, as Jared Davis’ brilliant set and stage were filled to capacity..."

Thanks,
Jared Davis

A great detailing of what sounds like a phenomenal production of what the show I would pick for Sondheim's most powerful masterpiece after Sweeney Todd, and his most poetic and ambitious creation. Wish I had been with you to see it!
