June 1 — Beginning with this Tuesday’s 7:30 performance, Jennifer Mendenhall will be taking over the role of Olivia in Arena Stage’s production of Karen Zacarias’ Legacy of Light. Mendenhall, having just closed the Solas Nua production of Woman and Scarecrow on Sunday afternoon, is in rehearsals now to prepare for the crucial role of contemporary scientist Olivia.
She is replacing actress Carla Harting, who suffered a broken leg with compound fractures on Sunday when she was hit by a car while biking in the DC area. As a result, Sunday matinee and evening performances were cancelled. Harting is recovering well, but will be unable to rejoin her cast so Mendenhall will play the role for the remainder of the play’s run, which closes June 14th.
