Tim T. -- That's a very good and positive review -- but I don't want to see the play. I saw King Lear and Spring Awakening in recent days and they more than met my quota of dark plays for the next while. This Lear (starring Stacy Keach) was the most low down interpretation I've ever seen. The production was marvelous and awful (in the literal meaning of awe-filled) but it made me appreciate the idea that Nahum Tate's revision of the play -- in which Lear and Cordelia survive and gain redemption -- was the one performed for 150 years. Why in our time do we seem to admire the most degrading portrayal? And why is it acceptable to cast the Serbian people in such an unfavorable light? (I could go on...)

Lee Liebeskind left this comment before the review was posted:

I saw this show at opening night on Saturday. This show was simply amazing. Powerful performances, minimal set, and a story that is haunting.

I wish I could say more but 2 days later and I am still processing the play.

Go see this, and make your own judgments, but I was really impressed.
