E. Faye Butler begins rehearsals for Arena’s Trouble in Mind
On August 9th, there will be one change in the cast of Arena Stage’s hit show Oklahoma! as one actress moves from the Fichandler Stage to an Arena Stage rehearsal hall, and another steps into her role.
Terry Burrell, who Washington audiences will remember from her appearances at Arena Stage in The Women of Brewster Place, Thunder Knocking on the Door and Of Thee I Sing, steps into the role of Laurie’s Aunt Eller for the continuation of the run, which ends October 2nd.
She replaces E. Faye Butler, whose performance in Molly Smith’s production last October earned her a Helen Hayes nomination, and who returned for this summer’s revival.
The Chicago musical star is making herself at home here in DC, as she begins rehearsals for Arena’s season opener, Trouble in Mind, directed by Irene Lewis. She will be playing Wiletta Mayer, in the Alice Childress play which, Arena Stages describes as” “Written on the cusp of the Civil Rights Movement, Trouble in Mind explores the strained relationships of a newly integrated cast rehearsing a bold anti-lynching drama. As the actors’ prejudices collide, lead actress Wiletta Mayer must decide how much she will compromise her beliefs, her integrity, and her sense of identity for a Broadway role.” Trouble in Mind opens September 9, 2011.
