In recent years, Smith’s productions of classic, American musicals have brought full houses and critical acclaim to Arena Stage, where she is the artistic director. Theater Alliance cancels Black Nativity

One man’s success in Arlington has caused changes in the Holiday Season for Washington’s Theater Alliance, the company announced Friday.

Because Stephawn Stevens, Black Nativity’s longtime director and a member of Theater Alliance’s Board of Directors has been cast in Signature Theatre’s Dreamgirls, he will be unable to do his customary work on Black Nativity. Accordingly, Theater Alliance has decided to replace Black Nativity with a four-week series of Wednesday night Gospel concerts called Soulful Sessions. [Read more...]
