Alone on stage, Christopher Piper shows us the wonder of puppetry from the very beginning when he creates a puppet right before our eyes – a plucky finger puppet Marybelle, who takes on mannerisms, her own style and personality as he builds her, bit by bit. The introduction effectively sets up the artistry so that by the time we get to the actual show, we’re well prepped to appreciate the creative flow between the puppeteer and his creation. Add in tremendous costumes and talented puppeteers committed to the integrity of the precious story, and you’ve got a sure-fire hit. [Read more...]

The tale is simple and ageless, and quite befitting for the most basic story-telling of all. In the Applause Unlimited production, the narrator, Christopher Hudert stands in front of a simple stand-up stage and introduces the hand-held puppets one by one, providing voice, songs and movement without gimmicks or fan fare.
