In an announcement which surprised many in the theatre community, Sam Sweet, Managing Director of Signature Theatre, has announced he will be stepping down from the position the end of the year. Having guided Signature through a capital campaign which raised $10.5 million for its gleaming new venue in Shirlington Village, Sweet explains he is most proud of the structure he will be leaving behind. “it is so much stronger, from the board all the way to the staff. I’ve always said throughout this campaign that the building is about the work that can be done there. . . . What it really represents is Signature having moved to a new level, raising the bar for itself.”
Mr. Sweet talks with Jane Horwitz about his decision in today’s column Backstage in the Washington Post.
