The Sound of Music
- Jan 6 -How do you solve a problem like Maria? By having Jessica Ball play that role. Toby’s Dinner Theater has found the perfect Maria for their production of The Sound Of Music. Jessica Ball is so charismatic and so intriguing, that she has everybody in the audience smiling and tapping their feet along to the music.
Most people know the story of The Sound of Music. Maria is a nun-in-training living in the Abbey when the nuns finally decide that Maria needs to leave the Abbey. They send Maria to the home of the Von Trapp family. Maria is hired as their nanny and she quickly becomes friends with them, only to fall in love with their father, Captain Von Trapp. Maria then gets the children to start singing and they become the Von Trapp Family Singers.Lynne Sharp Spears as Mother Abbess sang every note beautifully and had the crowd cheering many times.
All of the children were great. The biggest scene stealer was Bailey Gabrish as Brigitta. She had the audience roaring with laughter many times. Another child standout was Casey Klein, who played Friedrich. He wowed the crowd with his piercing beautiful voice.
Another fun couple to watch were Gabriella DeLuca and Ryan Mercer as Louisa and Rolf, who danced and sang pretty close to perfect.
The only problem with the show was the way Captain Von Trapp (David Bosley-Reynolds) was portrayed. He was too stiff and did not even act like anyone could love him, at all. I could not believe that he was actually in love with Maria.
If you love The Sound of Music I highly recommend this production at Toby’s Dinner Theater for kids seven and up. Parents will love the show, too.
