The long anticipated announcement came yesterday: Rooms, a rock romance, which made its World Premiere here at MetroStage last season, debuts in New York next month at New World Stages. Doug Kreeger continues the role of recluse 1970’s Glasgow musician Ian Wallace, and Leslie Kritzer replaces Natascia Diaz in the role of Scottish/Jewish princess Monica P. Miller, who dreams of becoming a rock star.
The Paul Scott Goodman (Bright Lights, Big City) musical received rave reviews here. Rooms producer Van Dean wrote us “MetroStage was the perfect theater for the World Premiere of ROOMS, a rock romance. Everyone on our creative team had a wonderful experience and we are thrilled at the warm and encouraging reception we received in DC. The experience was integral to the success of the show and its journey back to New York.”
Rooms, a rock romance previews begin February 27th, with opening night set for March 16th at New World Stages, 340 W 50th St, NYC.

While I loved the performance of Natascia Diaz at Metro Stage, I believe that Leslie Kritzer will have her own special gifts to bring to the role of Monica. I was very impressed with Ms. Kritzer’s performance in “A Catered Affair.” She’s a fine actress with a beautiful voice. I am eager to see her spin on the role and expect that the show will remain a wonderful new piece of musical theatre entertainment.
This is great news! I hope that Rooms is a big success in NYC.
We are thrilled that ROOMS is opening in New York next month in a 350 seat theatre just off Broadway. We fell in love with the story, the music and everyone involved, especially Paul Scott Goodman (music and lyrics) and Miriam Gordon (book and lyrics) when we premiered it here at MetroStage last summer. I am sure New York will fall in love with it all over again. I hope DC theatre-goers will stop by New World Stages and see it again when visiting New York. I am told the designers are trying to make this new venue have the same feel as MetroStage, creating an intimate space with a semi thrust stage in the 350 seat house. I took that as the highest compliment! There are already discussions of an original cast album. MetroStage is an associate producer of this New York production and will always be its biggest cheerleader.
