What more can we do for you? What can we do better? We are in the midst of redesigning the site and considering new features. We have a vision for where we are going – an interactive search for the Onstage Now section, more details on shows and venues, new features, etc.
But the people we most wish to satisfy are our visitors. So now is a good time to tell us what you like at DC Theatre Scene, what you don’t like, and, best of all, what’s missing from the site that would make your theatregoing more valuable. Comment below, of course, or if you wish to email privately, do so at [email protected].
I just had some correspondence with Joel about covering more cabaret shows.
D.C. has a small but thriving cabaret community.
Cabaret shows are usually self-produced and have short runs. In general, it has been VERY HARD for my cabaret buddies to get the word out about shows. Local papers and websites receive proper press releases, but — for some reason — don’t even list that the show is occurring!
Cabaret straddles the theater and the music genre, but if there’s any way the site could at least list the dates of upcoming shows — and, maybe, send a reviewer! — that would be fantastic.
In the meantime, two good references for local shows are Michael Miyazaki’s D.C. cabaret blog, http://cabaretdc.wordpress.com/ and the D.C. Cabaret Network site: http://www.dccabaretnetwork.org/
Thank you!
My main request is for a cleaner and more streamlined layout. I find the website fairly difficult to navigate in its current format and not terribly intuitive. A solid clean-up into categories (with subcategories under a tab, perhaps, instead of also out on the page) would really be welcome. The “Tag Cloud,” for instance, creates a massive muddle of information in the middle of the page.
I think you could also add information on auditions and submission deadlines, thus turning the site into a full-fledged overview of DC theater for performers, directors, designers and technicians, and not just for theater-goers.
I would like more accurate running times. For example, DCTheareScene listed Synetic’s Dante as being 1 hr & 50 min. I knew even before I saw the show this was wrong because Synetic never does anything longer than 1 hr & 30 min, which as I learned this Friday night, was the actual running time. Yes, I realize the show started late last Friday night, but for crying out loud, take that in consideration. If the show starts at 8:20 and ends at 9:50, do the math = 1 hr & 30 mn. In other words, don’t look at your watch when the show ends and then add that to when the show was SUPPOSED to start. Look at your watch when the show ACTUALLY begins and do the math. OK?
It would be nice if at the end of the review you could list the production team, stage manager and the cast of the show. That way anyone we could see who else worked on if they were not mentioned in the review.
More active Kids Stages Page.
– more comedies, or maybe that’s a request for DC theatre in general.
– I was going to say something about more information on cheap tickets, but I just found the cheap tickets page
