Theater J and Forum Theatre have joined together for a free reading of Caryl Churchill’s controversial 10 minute play Seven Jewish Children and two response plays, Deb Margolin’s Seven Palestinian Children and The Eighth Child by Robbie Gingras. Each of these brief plays will be followed by discussion periods. The program is estimated to run under an hour.
The cast includes Jeff Allin, Eliza Bell, Fiona Blackshaw, Delia Taylor, Jesse Terrill, Michael Tolaydo and Alexander Strain.
According to New York Theatre Workshop which is presenting the Churchill play as a solo reading: “Seven Jewish Children was written by Churchill as a direct response to the recent events in Gaza. The play features seven scenes of Jewish parents, grandparents, and relatives attempting to explain to children how they should feel and react to the sometimes violent and confusing world around them.” The NYTW site also includes a response from Kenneth Stern of the American Jewish Committee.
