In this week’s runup to the Tony Awards, the popular NY theatre site BroadwayStars.com challenged a panel of Broadway critics to predict the winners of Sunday nights Awards show. DCTS’ Joel Markowitz joined in the talk along with Peter Filichia, TheatreMania columnist and critic for the Newark Star Ledger, Michael Portantiere, journalist for AfterElton and BroadwayStars.com, and Matthew Murray, Chief Theatre Critic for TalkinBroadway.com and BroadwayStars columnist.
BroadwayStars Editor James Marino has organized the two and a half hour talkathon into easily listenable segments by category, along with a page view listing the nominees. Listeners can download the entire program, or only those categories of most interest. Visit it here.
While there was heated discussion about who deserves to win and why, Joel told us “I’m very proud that Washington will be so well represented at this year’s Tony’s, and that I got invited to be part of this panel. It should be an interesting night. We might see an upset in several categories. As my friend and fellow columnist Richard Seff said in our DCTS Tony Awards podcast ‘Anything can happen at the Tonys.'”
