We’re used to seeing him direct the works of David Grimm and Sheila Callahan, but it turns out Howard Shalwitz, artistic director of the mostly songless and danceless Woolly Mammoth, also loves musicals – and has been workshopping a new musical for the past year.Citizen Ruth is about to debut at the 2009 NY International Fringe Festival from August 17 – 24. The Mark Leydorf/Michael Brennan musical promises Christian conservatives, righteous feminists, scheming politicans and shallow celebrities.
