As reported in Jane Horwitz’ Backstage column in the Washington Post, the Bethesda Theatre, virtually shuttered since 3 Blonde Moms last June, will experiment as a rental facility. According to Tom Baum, president of the nonprofit Bethesda Cultural Alliance which owns the theatre, the booking relationship with Nederlander Worldwide terminated this summer. The newly renovated theatre struggled financially since suffering extensive water damage last April caused by a burst water pipe in an apartment above.
A Late Night (10pm) Cabaret Series around the bar has been launched at Bethesda – this weekend it’s Karen Lange on Friday, and Barbara Papendorp doing Cole Porter Saturday night. ($15). Horwitz reports that the next main stage show will be a touring production of ‘Forever Tango’, Oct 27 – Nov 1. More details in today’s Backstage.
