As reported by Jane Horowitz in today’s Backstage column, the move from CHAW to the Atlas Theatre had too great an economic impact on the highly regarded Catalyst Theater Company, which maintained its $10 ticket policy. The company has disbanded and Artistic Director Scott Fortier has moved to Boston.

About Lorraine Treanor
Lorraine Treanor has been editor of DC Theatre Scene since 2006. She has produced concerts and plays in her hometown of Chicago, and twice in the Capital Fringe festival. Her daughter Nina Norris is an artist working in Chicago. Life's a blast because she shares it with writer Tim Treanor.
This is such sad news. When Catalyst was at CHAW, I got to see some tremendous work. When they announced they were leaving that venue to go to the Atlas, I’d wished they had reconsidered. Catalyst worked that small space at CHAW like you wouldn’t believe. For $10 a show you got way more than your money’s worth. So sad for this company AND us.
What a pity! Catalyst was a good group and one I enjoyed. Why is it always the most creative theatres and the ones with the best artists that go under? Remember Moving Target Theatre? Theatre Bobo?
Having quickly moved to Boston, what are the Fortiers going to do about the considerable debt owed, among others, to Atlas, which itself is in financial straits? Why did they choose to move to Boston before these responsibilities were taken care of?
