Sunday, Jan 17, 2010 — WATCH (Washington Area Theatre Community Honors), which adjudicates the productions of its 30 member community theatre companies, announced its 10th Annual WATCH Award nominations for the season ended Dec 31, 2009 at the Birchmere in Alexandria, VA. In 2009, WATCH members produced 114 productions (33 musicals and 81 plays); the nominations are for the top 5 scorers in each of 38 performing and technical categories. The most recognized community theatres were: Reston Community Players (32 nominations), Little Theatre of Alexandria (27 nominations), Silver Spring Stage (23 nominations), Elden Street Players (19 nominations), Arlington Players (18 nominations), and Kensington Arts Theatre (14 nominations).
The five most outstanding musical productions were: Curtains (Reston Community Players), Falsettos (Elden Street Players), Follies (Arlington Players), The Full Monty (Reston Community Players) and The Musical of Musicals: The Musical (Elden Street Players).
The five most outstanding plays were: columbinus (Silver Spring Stage), The Goat or, Who is Sylvia? (Silver Spring Stage), Gross Indecency (Little Theatre of Alexandria), It Runs in the Family (Little Theatre of Alexandria), and Six Degrees of Separation (CCT with 2nd Flight Theatre Company).
