I was delighted when Linda Murray, Artistic Director of Solas Nua, agreed to interview Irish playwright Conor McPherson and actor Ciarán Hinds on their new film “The Eclipse” from Magnolia Pictures.
Thanks to DC Theatre Scene I recently got an opportunity to sit down with two of my favorite Irish artists currently on the scene – the well-known playwright (Shining City, The Seafarer) and up and coming film director, Conor McPherson, and the always sublime actor, Ciarán Hinds (best known to American audiences for his role as Caesar on HBO’s Rome, and shortly to become globally recognized for his turn as Aberforth Dumbledore in the final installments of Harry Potter). They were in town to promote their recent film together,” The Eclipse“, which was first screened in DC last December as part of the Capital Irish Film Festival and which recently picked up a Best Film Award at the IFTAs and also a Best Supporting Actor win for Aidan Quinn.
The Eclipsed opens locally on April 9th at the E Street Cinema, 555 11th St NW, Washington, DC.
Funny and engaging, the two clearly enjoy each others company and the interview went at a pretty fast pace. Click below to listen in as Hinds and McPherson wax lyrical on working together, and discuss the film’s themes of love, loss and – perhaps inevitably for an Irish love story – ghosts.
