Sunday, Jan 16, 2011 — Nominations for this year’s WATCH (Washington Area Theatre Community Honors) Awards were read at the Birchmere Musical Hall, Alexandria, VA, which will also host the Awards ceremony March 6, 2011 at 7pm.
In 2010, WATCH members adjudicated 121 productions (35 musicals and 86 plays) produced by its 31 member community. The nominations are for the top 5 scorers in each of 38 performing and technical categories. The nominations recognized the work of 24 theatre companies. Those most heavily nominated were: Elden Street Players, Herndon, VA (32), Port Tobacco Players, LaPlata, MD (29), Colonial Players, Annapolis, MD (16), Little Theatre of Alexandria, Alexandria, VA (16), The Arlington Players, Arlington, VA, (15), Silver Spring Stage, Silver Spring, MD (13), Reston Community Players, Reston, VA (13) and Kensington Arts Theatre, Kensington, MD (12).
Nominations for Most Outstanding Play are: The Glass Menagerie (Bowie Community Players), Frozen (Colonial Players), Metamorphoses (Elden Street Players), Wit (Elden Street Players) and Trip to Bountiful (Reston Community Players.)
Nominations for Most Outstanding Musical are: She Loves Me (Damascus Theatre Company), Rent (Elden Street Players), Chicago (Little Theatre of Alexandria), The Producers (Port Tobacco Players) and The Producers (The Arlington Players.)
