Looking for an evening of original comedy, side splitting laughter and a completely unique story line? Then look no further than The Bedroom at Fort Fringe. ShawnMikael(s), the improv comedy duo comprised of Shawn Westfall and Mikael Johnson, have invested years and years of intense training in improvisational comedy training to bring D.C. audiences the opportunity to create a show with them.
With no more than two chairs, a bare stage and a single word from an audience volunteer, ShawnMikael(s) created the angst filled world of the American teenager. The scenario was complete with young star-crossed lovers, four quirky and deeply troubled parents, and a well-meaning camp counselor who’s in way over his head.
The scenarios took us to the trailer park, the suburbs and a questionable summer camp where ten year olds are encouraged to hang out with members of a halfway house. We laughed our way through, dramatic confrontations, near-death experiences and the multiple instances where characters are caught with their pants down.
The two performers keep the pace by never passing on an opportunity to expand the world that they create on the spot before the audience. Westfall seems to possess a sixth sense for knowing what character each audience will respond to best. Couple that with Johnson’s ability to effortlessly transform into multiple characters both male and female of any age or background and you have the potential for a night of delightful inventive comedy.
This approximately 50 minute sketch is recommended for anyone over 13 years old with an imagination.
