Arena Stage celebrates with a three day ticket sale
Arena Stage has announced that, as of September 1st, more than 100,000 audience members have seen its award winning production of Oklahoma!. Originally staged in October, 2011 to open the new Mead Center for American Theater, it quickly broke box office records, prompting Arena Stage to announce a summer return. Oklahoma! re-opened June 3rd with the majority of its cast intact. When the musical closes October 2nd, it will have had 174 public performances over 23 weeks, making Oklahoma! the longest-running mainstage production in Arena Stage’s history and the best-selling mainstage production in Arena Stage’s 61-year history.
“Arena Stage’s production of Oklahoma! is a phenomenon unlike any other,” says Linda Levy Grossman, President and CEO of The Helen Hayes Awards. “As far as we can tell, by reaching 100,000 people, not only has it generated more audiences in the shortest amount of time than any other resident production in the Washington area, but it has also introduced thousands of children and adults to the distinctive beauty of live theater, and has inspired audiences to return to the theater again and again.”
In recognition of this tremendous milestone, Arena Stage is hosting a three-day community celebration featuring $45 tickets to all remaining performances. The sale began today, and end at 11:59pm on Friday, September 9th.
Tickets can be purchased in person at the Sales Office (1101 Sixth St., SW, Washington, DC) or by phone at 202-488-3300 from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and online at www.arenastage.org.
