Rorschach Theatre Company, which is currently producing after the quake, a play based on two Haruki Murakami short stories, will make copies of the popular Japanese novelists newly released English language version of “1Q84” available for sale following a special Monday night performance of the show on October 24th, the theater announced.
Rorschach is collaborating with the bookstore Politics & Prose in making this offer.
after the quake follows the struggle of a young writer in the aftermath of the Kobe earthquake as he comforts a young girl and tries to find the courage to take control of his own life – all while writing a fantasy about a gigantic, earthquake-fighting frog. “It would be too glib to say this is a story of healing,” DC Theatre Scene observed in its review. “It is something better: a story about ordinary people living their lives, through difficulties.”
“IQ 84” tells the story of Aomame, a young woman who gets into a strange taxi and gradually begins to notice discrepancies between the world around her and the world she’s known all her life, and of Tengo, who takes on a ghostwriting project and soon discovers that his previously placid life is beginning to unravel.
The novel costs $30.50. To reserve a copy for pickup after the show, write to Politics & Prose here or call them at 202.364.1919.
