The DC area’s best theatre & film actors battle for over $1000 in cash & prizes
Basketball has it March Madness Tournament, and, thanks to DC actor/producer/athlete Edward Daniels, performers have Monologue Madness, a showdown to the finish where actors, using audition monologues, battle head-to-head for prizes and a grand prize of $1,000.
Preparation: Actors have 90 seconds to present 1 or 2 monologues in any genre. Bring 3 copies of your headshot and resume to the auditions, and plenty of business cards. Download the Actor Guide from the MM website.
Actors should expect a strong presence of local and regional casting personnel in this year’s audience and even more career-related prizes. “I’m really going after sponsors this year and hope to add to the trophies, acting books, theatre tickets, headshot sessions, and the like, that were awarded last year,” states Daniels.
Last year’s competition saw the likes of Cori Dioquino, Katja Volker, Joe Brack, and John C. Bailey battling it out in the Final Four. “It was awesome”, Daniels said. “We had these amazingly talented stage and film veterans going up against a talented child actor who advanced through the field! In the end, John C. Bailey, after a hilarious adjustment to his “cold read”, was crowned champion!”
Tickets for Championship Sunday go on sale in February, and, if last year’s competition is any indicator, actors will once again be competing before a sold-out crowd.
