Olney Theatre Center, which operates on a calendar year season, having just ended its 2011 season last weekend with the highly successful Sound of Music, thanks to several extensions, has just announced its 2012 season.
The season, which will mark the farewell for long-time Artistic Director Jim Petosa, opens February 22nd with the popular family musical You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown, followed in April by the riotously funny stage adaptation of the classic Hitchcock film, The 39 Steps, done by 4 actors playing 150 roles. As thrilling as that comedy can be to watch, more thrills await. Jim Petosa will take his bow as director for the Agatha Christie mystery Sleuth in June. Summer visitors will be treated to the kitschy, musical comedy Little Shop of Horrors in August. Buffalo playwright Tom Dudzick’s comedy/drama Over the Tavern about a Catholic family, their 12 year old Rudy, and his confrontation with Sister Clarissa is the Fall production and for the holidays, Olney remounts the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical Cinderella, this time with Bobby Smith directing.

Thanks for the coverage of our new season, Lorraine. Readers should note, however, that SLEUTH is the work of Anthony Shaffer (elder brother of Peter S. of AMADEUS and EQUUS). SLEUTH was most recently adapted by Harold Pinter for a 2005 film version. While Olney will produce the original stage play by Shaffer, the production will be greatly influenced by Pinter’s particular theatre of menace take on the play. Thanks again for helping spread the news!
