Amelia, A Story of Abiding Love, the two actor Civil War drama by Alex Webb enjoying a critically acclaimed run at Washington Stage Guild, has added 8 performances, and will now close February 12, 2012.

DCTS reviewer Susan Galbraith wrote that Amelia “exemplifies the astonishing power of theatre to unexpectedly grab your heart and carry you off into an adventure of the soul.” and Trey Graham at Washington City Paper, seconded, describing it as “”astutely rendered…gripping.”
Amelia is based on the true story of a woman whose determination to find her wounded husband led her to the horror of the Andersonville prison camp. Shirleann Kaladjian plays the title role and her husband, the play’s author, Alex Webb handles all other roles.
There will be one more Thursday night performance, January 26th. The remaining performance schedule will be Friday and Saturday evenings at 8pm and Saturday and Sunday matinees at 2:30pm with talkbacks following the Friday performances.
Washington Stage Guild’s production of Amelia runs thru February 12, 2012 at the Undercroft Theatre, 900 Massachusetts Ave NW, Washington, DC.

Great news! I went back again last night, and it’s even more amazing on second look. Standing ovations both times I went.
