WAMU 88.5 and Lean & Hungry Theater will present a live-to-air broadcast of Shakespeare’s The Tempest, at 6 p.m. on March 4, 2012. The performance can be seen at Wilson High School, 3950 Chesapeake St. NW, Washington, D.C. and will be followed by a post-performance discussion led by WAMU 88.5 host Kojo Nnamdi.
Audiences can also tune in to WAMU 88.5 for the live simulcast.
Lean & Hungry Theater’s science fiction radio adaptation of The Tempest takes place in the distant future, far across the universe in the Naples Galaxy. The story is about Prospero using the help of his daughter Miranda, a hideous alien Caliban. A sentient computer program named Ariel, takes revenge on his usurping brother Antonio and his ally, the Queen of the Naples Galaxy, by using his mastery of technology, creating a cosmic tempest to crash land the Queen’s spaceship, sending everyone into a mad hilarious dance, bringing them all together for the final confrontation.
The all-DC cast is: Steve Beall as Prospero; Jason Hentrich as Caliban, Ferdinand and Sebastian; Hyla Matthews as Miranda; Sarah Taurchini as Ariel and Queen Alonso. Danny Cackley does triple duty as Boatswain, Trinculo, Gonzalo and T. Anthony Quinn is Stephano, Antonio and is the Narrator.
