Imagination Stage has seized on the idea of a ball for the 4-12 set to be held in its Bethesda location. Titled “Just Imagine…The Inaugural Children’s Ball”, the event takes place Saturday May 5th, starting at 3:30 and ends at 7pm, as weary ball goers are whisked off for home in their carriages, or other conveyances.
The staff at Imagination Stage has planned a full afternoon for the small guests complete with a reception, after which everyone, attired, no doubt in their best “going to the ball” clothes, will be seated for Rapunzel, followed by activites such as sword-fighting, cupcake decorating, magic and mask-making and, of course, dancing.
The catered reception (Ridgewells Catering is handling that) will be supplemented by a silent auction (included among the biddable items: a walk-on role in one of Imagination’s productions). Go here for a look at the auction items.
“This is something we have wanted to do for many years,” Imagination Stage Executive Director Bonnie Fogel said. “Several of our patrons wanted a very special event that would emulate our annual October Gala but would be geared for children. In thinking through how to create a wonderful event for children that was full of the magic of imagination and creativity, the committee determined to use Rapunzel as the focal point. What could be more delightful than dressing up to come to a ‘ball,’ attending a wonderful, magical piece of theatre—complete with princesses, princes, and wicked witches—and then, afterwards, attending a party with all kinds of treats and special events?” Georgetown Cupcakes will provide Rapunzel-themed cupcakes.
Tickets for the Imagination Stage fundraiser start at $75; family packages start at $250. You can order tickets by calling 301.280.1660 or visiting Imagination’s website.
