Washington area critics have spent the last year giving you their opinion about what’s great in Washington theatre.
Now it’s your turn.
We invite all theatergoers to join us in giving a final round of applause to the companies and performers who brought such fine work to Washington area stages this past season.
Right now, DC Theatre Scene’s staff members, having reviewed over two hundred professional productions in the DC area in the past 12 months, are nominating the best of the best productions and performances of the season. Soon, we will invite all theatregoers to help us determine which plays and performances will emerge as the audience favorites. We hope you will be among our voters.
All professional productions which opened in the greater DC area between August 16, 2011 and July 31, 2012, are eligible. (Capital Fringe shows get separate consideration – you can vote for them here.)
Audience Choice categories are: resident plays, resident musicals, resident family shows, resident operas (new this year) and non-resident productions. Performance choices are: favorite performance by an actor and by an actress for the four resident categories, favorite performance for the non-resident production and favorite ensemble performance.
Audience Choice Award nominees will be announced Tuesday, August 7; the first round of voting begins immediately, and ends Tuesday, August 14. The top three finishers in each category move on to the final round of voting which opens August 15 and closes August 22.
Voting is by individual ballot, emailed to each registered voter. How do you get a ballot? If you’re receiving our daily newsletter, you are automatically registered. You’ll receive your ballot electronically when each round of voting opens.

Tried several times over two days to get ballot and alas, the software is apparently not working!!!! Please post how to obtain a ballot in order to vote!!! [Editor’s note: The writer reports success in getting a ballot.]
