If you’ve ever wondered why DC playwrights aren’t writing about the largest population group in DC – government workers – well, Mary Resing and the staff at Active Cultures wondered right along with you, and ended up with an hour long festival of ultra short plays.
.govaculture is, in their words, “From GS3 to GS12, this evening’s about you. You name it, we tackle it–the Paperwork Reduction Act, pesky subcontractors, buzzwords, office baseball teams–and we do it government style.”
The evening’s collection of shorts include Work from Home by Madeline Muravchick, To the Director by Jennifer Nelson, Form 271 B by playwright and Washington Post columnist Alexandra Petri, Deportation by Jean Koppen, Buzzword Bingo by April Brassard, and the ditty “Department of State” by Timothy Guillot.
The playlets are brief as is your chance to catch them. The plays have only two performances: February 22 at 8pm and February 23 at 9:30pm at the Atlas as part of the INTERSECTIONS, Atlas Performing Arts Center, Feb 22 – Mar 10, 2013. The Altas Performing Arts Center, 1333 H Street, NE, Washington, DC. Tickets are $15. Details and tickets.
I’m sorry I’m going to miss this – it’s an intriguing company as the two shows of theirs that I’ve seen have proven. (Resurrectionist King; Constellation.)
