Puppet Stand-Up, coming to the Warehouse for 2 shows this Saturday, promises to run the gamut from serious to silly by presenting puppets in stand up routines by “the best puppet comics working today.” Some, perhaps all, of the 18 puppeteers may surprise you: there’s Christopher Henley and Kathleen Akerley, usually found in more serious endeavors for WSC Avant Bard and Longacre Lea, director Catherine Aselford, actors Mary Suib and Tony Rizzo, and burlesque stars Kittie Glitter and Shortstaxx.
The producers assure us that DC hasn’t seen such a massive public amassment of comic talent since Cherry Red Productions’ live retelling of the dirtiest joke of all time, The Aristocrats, in August of 2011. They should know about that one, since Ian Allen (former A.D. for Cherry Red) is one third of the producing team, along with Puppet Liberation Organization, and someone calling himself/herself Your Mom. Allen will be a host, along with dragster Lucrezie Blozie and Lucas Zarwell.
This is an adult show – 18 and over, please. Saturday, February 23 at 8pm and 10pm at Warehouse Theater, 645 New York Ave NW in DC. Tickets: $25, general admission or $35, reserved seating. Details and tickets.
