Have you heard? Due to the onrush of donors which slowed their servers yesterday, DoMore24, the one day community wide giving program of the United Way of the National Capitol Area, is extended to midnight, today (Friday).
Your support of just a little lunch money – they suggest donations of $12, $24, $48, but you can give more or less – will help your favorite nonprofits, including many area theatre companies. Some charities show just how far they can stretch your dollars. At Capitol Hill Arts Workshop, $24 will buy gas for 1 van to pick up kids. On the Humanities Council page, you see that $12 will let them buy 2 books for the Read to Live program. And Theater Alliance, which needs all the money they can get for their big move to the Anacostia Playhouse this summer, reports that $12 buys them one hour of rented rehearsal space.
While some companies are doing well with the campaign (Adventure Theatre and Capitol Hill Arts Workshop have raised over $2,500), others, frankly, need your help. Friends of GALA, Faction of Fools, and Step Afrika! – heed the call.
So far, DoMore24 has raised over $900,000.00. It’s an easy way to help your favorite theatres and other charities do more throughout the year.
