Update! Second extension announced. New Must-Close date: Oct 6th.
Due to popular demand, Signature Theatre has added an additional performances for Miss Saigon, and extended the run to Oct 6, 2013. Those additional dates now on sale starting this morning.
Anticipation is high to see how director Eric Schaeffer will fit the mega-musical, its 18 member cast and 15 piece orchestra, into the intimate MAX theatre for what Signature calls “an immersive new production of the international smash hit musical.” Signature audiences will also get to hear the American premiere of a new addition to the score, “Maybe”, sung by Erin Driscoll as Ellen.
Other featured performers are Diana Huey as the Vietnamese bar girl Kim, Jason Michael Evans as the American GI Chris and Thom Sesma as the mysterious club owner who calls himself the Engineer, Chris Sizemore as John, and Christopher Mueller as Tuey. Created by the acclaimed writers of Les Misérables (produced by Signature in 2008), this modern, rock-infused adaptation of Puccini’s 1904 opera Madame Butterfly explores the ongoing impact of love, loss, and the collision of cultures during the Vietnam War. Originally produced in London’s West End in 1989, the show played for ten years – a run of over four thousand performances. Broadway success followed in 1991.
“Miss Saigon is the most technically ambitious show Signature’s ever produced, and we’re thrilled that audiences are as excited as we are,” said Managing Director Maggie Boland, “A lot of performances are sold out, so we’re glad to be able to add another week to the run.”
Performances are Tuesday through Sunday evenings, with matinees on Saturday and Sunday. Tuesday and Wednesday performances are at 7:30pm; Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evening performances are at 8:00pm; Sunday evening performances are at 7:00pm.
