The movie adaptation of the beloved Stephen Sondheim musical Into the Woods began shooting on Wednesday in England. Already promotional stills and footage are appearing on the web to promote what Disney hopes will be the big hit of the 2014 Christmas season.
Initial filming began at Dover Castle in England. In the clip below the quintessential “fairy tale couple” of Prince Charming (Chris Pine) and Cinderella (Anna Kendrick) are seen arriving via horse draw carriage.
Other cast members visible include:
- James Corden and Emily Blunt as the Baker and his wife;
- Mackenzie Mauzy as Rapunzel and Billy Magnussen as the prince who courts her;
- Christine Baranski as Cinderella’s step-mother; and.
- Tracey Ullman as the mother of Jack (of beanstalk fame).
Among the stars who are not yet seen on set of this big-budget adaptation are Johnny Depp as the Wolf, Lilla Crawford (fresh off of her run as “Annie” on Broadway) playing Little Red Riding Hood, and Meryl Streep as the Witch.
However, if you are eager to imagine how Streep will look as the Witch, check out this promotional still from Disney.
Into the Woods is tentatively scheduled to open on December 25, 2014.
