No Rules Theatre Company announces its 2014 season. For this, its fifth season, the award winning company will be staging eight productions between Arlington, VA and Winston-Salem, NC.
Performing from Signature Theatre, in Arlington, VA, No Rules opens Late: A Cowboy Song by Sarah Ruhl, described as: “the story of one woman’s education and her search to find true love outside the box. Mary, who is always late and always married, meets a lady cowboy outside the city limits of Pittsburgh who teaches her how to ride a horse. In the meantime, Mary’s husband, Crick, buys a painting with the last of their savings. Then, Mary and Crick have a baby, but they can’t decide on the baby’s name, or the baby’s gender.”
“This play is for all the lady cowboys of heart and mind who ride outside the city limits of convention.” Sarah Ruhl
Late is directed by Rex Daugherty and is designed by No Rules Company Member Cory Ryan Frank and will feature Alyssa Wilmoth, who appeared in NRTC’s Stop Kiss.
The season continues with the hilarious comedy Boeing-Boeing by Marc Camoletti. “Playboy Bernard juggles three fiancées, all flight attendants, with careful planning and the reluctant assistance of his housekeeper. But, weather delays and the invention of a faster Boeing jet send his elaborate love life into chaos in this hilarious retro comedy.” Boeing-Boeing will be directed by No Rules Company Member Matt Cowart, who directed No Rules’ Black Comedy and You’re A Good Man Charlie Brown. No Rules Company Member and Helen Hayes Award-winning Actress Carolyn Cole will lead the cast of Boeing Boeing. The show runs from June 4 to 29 at Signature Theatre and from July 9 to 27 at Hanesbrands in Winston-Salem.
The No Rules RuleBreaker Award will be presented in Washington on June 23rd and in Winston-Salem on Oct 20th, 2014. The company announced that last year’s event in Winston-Salem raised more than $100,000 in support of the theatre and to start a new community arts fund in Winston-Salem.
Fall, 2014 we’ll have two more No Rules shows in the Washington area: The No Rules Show and Seven Guitars.
Artistic Director Joshua Morgan describes the coming year’s programming: “Theatre allows us to reflect. So this season, we are focusing on identity in all of its forms. It will be a journey through a season of hidden pasts, cultural understanding, character transformations and a few celebrities thrown in for fun.”
“In this past season, we saw some of our greatest accomplishments yet,” said Violette Jacoson, chair of the NRTC Board of Directors. “We moved into residence at Signature Theatre, which is one of the top regional theatres in the country. We saw our audiences grow substantially in both cities. Three productions in a row broke box office records and became the organization’s best sellers. NRTC shows remained Helen Hayes Award-recommended and received rave reviews from media with international influence. We expect our fifth season to continue breaking records.”
Individual tickets at Signature Theatre are $31; Student tickets are $24; Opening Night tickets are $51; and Previews are $16. Facility fees will added to purchase price.
