Just announced: Arena Stage’s season opener this year, Velocity of Autumn starring Estelle Parsons and Stephen Spinella, under the direction of Arena Stage Artistic Director Molly Smith, will open on Broadway at the Booth Theatre in April (previews start April 1; official opening April 24, 2014.)

This will mark the Broadway debut for both the playwright, Eric Coble, and for director Molly Smith.
“Without a doubt, this is a big moment,” comments Smith. “I could not be more excited to be at the helm of the 20th production from Arena Stage to move to Broadway in the company’s 63-year history as a pioneering not-for-profit resident theater. It is a pleasure to be part of the small group of women who have had the opportunity to direct on Broadway.”
She continues, “Eric’s funny and moving story is alive in living rooms all over the country—these characters are having the discussions about life and old age with the clarity we wish we could have in our own lives. Estelle and Stephen are splendid, and Eric’s play reminds us of our own crazy humanity.”
The producing team, which includes Larry Kaye of HOP Theatricals, a Washington attorney and director turned NY producer, is retaining the same cast and creative team seen in the Arena Stage production.
