The new production of Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe’s beloved Oscar and Tony Award-winning film and stage musical Gigi will open on Broadway on Wednesday, April 8 at the Neil Simon Theatre (250 West 52nd Street). Broadway previews begin on Thursday, March 19. Tickets go on sale on Friday, January 23 at 10:00 AM at www.ticketmaster.com.
The show, now in rehearsal at the Kennedy Center, opens for a four week run in the Eisenhower Theatre. Washington audiences will get their first look at Gigi, and its new star Vanessa Huggins, when previews begin January 16th. Opening night is January 27 and the production runs through February 12. Tickets for the Kennedy Center engagement are available at www.kennedy-center.org.
The original Lerner/Loewe Tony Award winning musical has a new book adaptation by Heidi Thomas. Directing it is Signature Theatre Artistic Director Eric Schaeffer, whom Broadway audiences know from his direction of Follies and Million Dollar Quarter.
This new adaptation of Gigi will feature all of the songs from the movie, including two songs, “The Parisians” and “Say a Prayer for Me Tonight,” that were dropped from the previous stage version. The production also includes four songs written and added to the stage score by Lerner and Loewe in 1973, “Paris is Paris Again,” “I Never Want to Go Home Again,” “The Contract,” and “In This Wide, Wide World.”
