This year’s Pulitzer Prize for Drama will be awarded to Stephen Adly Guirgis for Between Riverside and Crazy, his dark comedy about a retired police officer whose landlords are trying to remove him from a rent-controlled apartment in Manhattan. Premiered in 2014 at the Atlantic Theater Company, directed by Austin Pendleton and starring Stephen McKinley Henderson, the play was produced at 2ndStage this February.
2015 Pulitzer finalists were Jordan Harrison for Marjorie Prime and Suzan-Lori Parks for Father Comes Home from the Wars (Parts 1, 2, 3).
Mr. Guirgis‘ The Motherf***er with the Hat, seen here at Studio Theatre in 2013, received six Tony Award nominations in 2011. Forum Theatre produced The Last Days of Judas Iscariot, in 2008 and again in 2014.
In November, 2014, Mr. Guirgis was awarded the $200,000 Steinberg Distinguished Playwright Mimi Award for his works to date. That evening, the audience received a premiere reading of Between Riverside and Crazy.
