What happens when you invite Harvey Fierstein to freshen up the book for the TV debut of the Broadway musical The Wiz?
Viewers will find out when they tune in NBC at 8pm (EST) Thursday, December 3rd for The Wiz Live!. With Tony winner Kenny Leon directing, an all star cast will step on down the road to this latest musical update of The Wizard of Oz.
Tune in to see Queen Latifah as the Wiz, Shanice Williams as Dorothy, David Alan Grier as The Cowardly Lion, Ne-Yo as the Tin Man, Elijak Kelley as the Scarecrow, Common as the Bouncer, Uzo Aduba as Glinda, Mary J. Blige as Evillene and Stephanie Mills, who played the original Dorothy in the 1975 premiere of The Wiz, as Auntie Em.
Executive producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron will bring lessons learned from NBC’s The Sound of Music Live! in 2013, and last year’s Peter Pan Live! to Thursday night’s show.
As for what Harvey Fierstein, a theatrical wizard if there ever was one, has up his sleeve? He revealed his new back stories for Frank L. Baum’s original characters to BroadwayWorld today.
