We have seen Nancy Robinette and Lee Mikeska Gardner don the costumes of infamous singer Florence Foster Jenkins in Stephen Temperley’s wickedly funny Souvenir. Now comes news that Meryl Streep is playing the role of the wealthy diva whose singing made audiences cringe – The Telegraph calls her the worst opera singer in history – but who was blithely oblivious, since what she heard was glorious.
Her longtime accompanist, Cosmé McMoon, will be played by Simon Helberg (Howard on The Big Bang Theory), and Hugh Grant has the role of her British Shakespearean actor and love interest St Clair Bayfield.
Florence Foster Jenkins will be released May 6th. We’ll keep you posted.
