DC Theatre Scene was invited to interview Helen Hayes Award recipients backstage at the Lincoln Theatre on Monday, May 23, 2016. Before heading there, Jill Kyle-Keith caught up with Helen Hayes judge Natalie Tucker.
Fresh from the stage, you’ll see reactions from Lolita Marie (Supporting Actress, Play for Proof at 1st Stage), Jake Null (Musical Direction for Avenue Q at Constellation Theatre), playwright Martyna Majok (New Play for Ironbound at Round House Theatre and part of the Women’s Voices Theater Festival), Dawn Ursula (Lead Actress, Play for Queens Girl in the World, Theater J, also part of the Women’s Voices Theater Festival), Allison Arkell Stockman (Director of a Musical for Avenue Q at Constellation Theatre), the cast of IMPOSSIBLE! A Happenstance Circus (Ensemble of a play), Kevin McAllister (Lead Actor, Musical for Ragtime at Toby’s Dinner Theatre), Barrett Wilson Reed (Lead Actress, Musical for Cabaret at Signature Theatre).
And finally, Mark Jaster (Lead Actor, Play for IMPOSSIBLE! A Happenstance Circus). Notice that both he and Duke Ellington, in the background, are sporting classy top hats, white ties and tails.
Best Dressed Award, anyone?
