Natascia Diaz, Sam Ludwig, Michael Sharp and Roz White are among the lineup of stars appearing at MetroStage for the cabaret being held to on Monday, May 1, 2017 to honor one of DC area theatre’s most devoted and enthusiastic supporters, Joel Markowitz.

Michael J. Bobbitt will MC the gala event, co-producers Carolyn Griffin of MetroStage and Lorraine Treanor of DC Theatre Scene announced today. “It will be a full evening of wonderful music and stories, and some very big surprises,” the producers said. “We are so happy that Joel will be there with us.”
As part of the evening’s finale, Joel Markowitz will receive The Gary Marker Award, which is given annually to an audience member in recognition of the fact that theatre cannot survive without its audience. A reception will follow.
Joel Markowitz entered the ranks of theatre journalists in 2006 when he joined DC Theatre Reviews (now DC Theatre Scene). He is currently the editor and publisher of DC Metro Theater Arts. This is the first time the Gary Maker Award has ever been presented to a journalist.
Everyone involved in the cabaret is donating their services. All monies raised will help defray the medical costs for Joel Markowitz who has been stricken with a very progressive form of ALS.* Tickets are Pay What You Wish and only available through this Cabaret for Joel Markowitz GoFundMe page. The show is nearly half sold out so we recommend that anyone wishing to attend get tickets as soon as possible.
- The cabaret is an event to help support Joel Markowitz. Those who can’t attend but wish to contribute to Joel Markowitz can find details on this GoFundMe page.
