Congratulations to DC based set designer, Paige Hathaway, the go-to designer for many DC area theatre companies, who will be the recipient of Live Design’s 2018 Rising Star Award to be presented at the USITT Conference & Stage Expo in Fort Lauderdale, FL, March 14-17, 2018.

Of late she’s drawn attention for elaborate sets such as for Me…Jane at The Kennedy Center, and The Book of Will, both of which earned her nominations for this year’s Helen Hayes Awards. But she has also applied her creative muscle to simpler sets. Ryan Taylor described her minimal set for The Gulf at Signature Theatre as “the third star” [of the two actor play] “evoking the shallow waters in which Betty and Kendra find themselves stuck.” Alan Katz spoke with her in 2016 following the reveal of her ” freaky, strange set” for Forum Theatre’s The Pillowman.
Her designs can be seen currently in the two story Minnesota home for Familiar at Woolly Mammoth Theatre and the upcoming Becoming Dr. Ruth at Theater J.
