Latest DC area theatre cancellations due to COVID-19

Mar 30 – Theater Prometheus has canceled He Did It.

Mar 30 – The Rep Stage production of Dames at Sea has been canceled.

Mar 29 – Rorschach Theatre has postponed F*CK LA VIE DE ARTISTE until October, 2020.

Mar 26 – Constellation Theatre: Eurydice has been canceled.

Mar 26 – Signature Theatre (update):
Camille Claudel will be moved to the 2020/21 Season. Dates will be announced later this spring/summer.
Nijinsky’s Last Dance will be postponed to this summer. Dates will be announced at a later time.
Hair will be postponed to this summer. Dates will be announced at a later time.
Not A Day Goes By: Signature Turns 30 cabaret originally scheduled in June/July 2020 has been cancelled due to the other changes in the schedule.

Signature Theatre still has plans to produce Mamma Mia! at The Anthem (June 25-July 5).

Mar 26 – Mosaic Theater of DC: 
Alexandra Petri’s Inherit the Windbag will open late summer. Dates to be announced.
The Till Trilogy will now be presented June 2, 2021 through August 22, 2021.

Mar 26 – The Kennedy Center

The May performances of Porgy and Bess have been canceled. New dates to be announced.
Once on This Island has been canceled.
Soundtrack ’63 in Studio K also canceled.

Mar 24 – Ford’s Theatre has re-scheduled Guys and Dolls, originally scheduled for March, 2020. The production will be staged Spring, 2021. The musical Man of La Mancha, originally announced as the spring 2021 production, will be postponed to a future season.

Mar 19 – Theater J has canceled the run of Becoming Dr. Ruth.

Mar 19 – Round House Theatre has canceled the remainder of its 2019-2020 season. This effects Charles Mee’s Big Love, Rehana Lew Mirza’s Hatef*ck. As previously announced, Cost of Living by Martyna Majok will be produced in September, 2021.

Mar 18 – Arena Stage closes all productions for its 2019-2020 season. Celia and Fidel, August Wilson’sSeven Guitars and Toni Stone have been postponed to the 2020/21 Season. Theresa Rebeck’s Enlightenment, Mike Daisey’s The Change and Lynn Nottage’s Crumbs from the Table of Joy  will be scheduled as part of Arena’s 2021-2022 season.

Mar 18 – Edward Daniel’s Monologue Madness, the actor’s competition, originally scheduled for March, will be held June 29 at The Kennedy Center.

Mar 17 – Sam and Dede, or My Dinner with Andre the Giant, will not be performed as planned this month. Washington Stage Guild will move it to next season.

Mar 17 – The Kennedy Center has canceled all shows through May 10.  Follow the link to make arrangements for refunds.

Mar 17 – The National Theatre has canceled The Last Ship, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Baby Shark Live! Plans are to re-schedule The Last Ship.

Mar 17 – 1st Stage has canceled A New Brain and The Waverly Gallery.

Mar 17 – The 2020 Helen Hayes Awards, originally scheduled for May 18 at The Anthem, is being rescheduled. theatreWashington announces it plans to hold the Awards ceremony August 24 at The Anthem.

Mar 17 – Olney Theatre Center has canceled performances of The Amateurs and Judy Moody and Stink. New dates for The Humans TBA. Possible changes to Olney’s summer shows 2 Pianos 4 Hands and Pippin.

Mar 17 – Best Medicine Rep has canceled its April production of The Fifth Date.

Mar 16 – In Series has canceled Rigoletto its final show of the season.

Mar 16 – American Shakespeare Center has canceled all performances of its Actors Rennaisance Season and its Spring tour. The Center will be closed through May 31st.

Mar 15 – Toby’s Dinner Theatre announced that Kinky Boots is canceled. New dates will be announced for Shrek the Musical.

Mar 15 – Quotidian Theatre has canceled the run of Ghosts, originally scheduled to open April 3rd. Their next production, The Day Emily Married will open in July.

March 14 – At Everyman Theatre, Queens Girl: Black in the Green Mountains is temporarily suspended. New dates will be April 15 – May 10. Cry It Out and Berta, Berta will be performed in a new voices festival this summer.

March 14 –  Arts on the Horizon has canceled its spring performances of By the Seashore. Plans are to produce the show this summer.

March 14 – The Complete Works of Shakespeare (Abridged) will close on March 15 at Chesapeake Shakespeare Company.

March 14 – From Shakespeare Theatre Company: The Amen Corner and Timon of Athens are closed. Romantics Anonymous, originally scheduled to open April 7, will now open April 21 and have a shortened run.

March 14 – Brave Spirits will perform Henry the Fifth on March 14. All other performances of the Shakespeare history rep are canceled through March 31.

March 14 – Anacostia Playhouse is closed through March 31.  This impacts the March Shakespeare for the Young Puppet Show, The Anacostia Playhouse New Play Festival Silenced Voices and Silence is Violence from Young Playwrights Theatre.

March 14 – At Creative Cauldron, all classes and the upcoming performance of Cinderella’s Dream are canceled thru March 30.

March 13 – Studio Theatre announced that Pass Over will close March 15.

March 13 – The Simon Godwin-directed Much Ado About Nothing, for Shakespeare Theatre Company, originally scheduled to open in May, will instead be moved to next season.

March 13 – Signature Theatre has closed until March 31. Easy Women Smoking Loose Cigarettes has closed. Ticket holders may donate their tickets, exchange them for a future production, or, in the case of Easy Women, possibly have access to a recorded version of the production. Camille Claudel will begin performances Mar 31.

March 13 – Arena Stage is closing from March 14 – 30. Performances of Celia and Fidel  will run March 31 thru April 12.

March 13 – Avant Bard has announced that Ada and the Engine and Suddenly Last Summer are closed.

March 13 – All classes and performances at Adventure Theatre MTC are canceled from Mar 16 – 28. The Snowy Day will close Mar 15.

March 13 – This Bitter Earth from Theater Alliance is closed, cancelling the last two weeks of its run.

March 13 – Mosaic Theater has moved its March performances of Inherit the Windbag by Alexandra Petri to April, dates TBA.

Mar 13 – Atlas Performing Arts Center has canceled all public performances through Mar 31. Theatrical producers impacted: Mosaic Theater, Scena Theatre and ExPats Theatre.

March 13 – The Band’s Visit at The Hippodrome in Baltimore, scheduled for March 17 – 22, has been canceled. The dates will be rescheduled. Audiences are asked to hold onto their tickets.

March 13 – The Edlavitch DCJCC is closed March 16 thru 31. Becoming Dr. Ruth will now begin performances on April 1.

March 13 – All events at Folger Shakespeare Library are canceled until further notice. Additionally, the ceremonial groundbreaking on April 28 is canceled. 2020 Gala at The Anthem has been rescheduled until Sept 14.

March 13 – All programming at Discovery Theatre, located in The Smithsonian’s Ripley Center in canceled as of March 14, due to the temporary closure of all Smithsonian Museums.

March 12 – Constellation Theatre’s production of The 39 Steps, originally extended to run through March 15, has closed.

March 12 – Round House Theatre’s production of  Cost of Living originally scheduled for April 1 – 19, has been canceled. The company expects to present it in September 2021. All classes are closed through April 3.

March 12 – Update: Imagination Stage has canceled all events and performances through March 27. Thumbelina and Zomo the Rabbit have closed.

March 12 – Ordinary Days, playing at NextStop Theatre, has canceled all remaining performances.

March 12 – Ford’s Theatre: All performances of Guys and Dolls at Ford’s Theatre held on March 13 and March 16 – April 5 are canceled. Also canceled: History on Foot walking tours scheduled for March 25-April 4, The Abraham Lincoln Institute’s full-day Symposium (free), scheduled for March 21 and The Society’s March 15 and 29 5:00 p.m. Guided Tours of Ford’s Theatre.  Performances of Guys and Dolls is expected to resume from April 6 to May 20.

March 12 – 4615’s production of Museum 2040 will close prematurely on March 15. Anyone with tickets to future performances are advited to attend the final weekend performance.  The show will be remounted at a future date.

March 12 – All performances and activities at The Kennedy Center are closed, from Friday, March 13 through Tuesday, March 31st. This affects Shear Madness, Don Giovanni, NY Ballet, Don Giovanni, Sampson and Delilah and Blue.

March 12 – Washington Improv Theater (WIT) is suspending all activities this month, including the annual FIST tournament

March 12 – Everyman Theatre’s Annual Gala, originally scheduled for March 14 at The Lord Baltimore Hotel, has been postponed. New date TBA.

March 12 – Monumental Theatre announced that their well-received production of Head Over Heels will close March 16, due to closure of the Episcopal High School facility. The run was originally scheduled to end March 23. Ticket exchanges are being arranged. The show may continue once the High School re-opens in April.

March 12 – Rasheeda Speaking postponed. Ally Theatre at Joe’s Movement Emporium, originally schedule to run through March 22.

March 12 – Adventure Theatre MTC Spring Gala, “Step Out in Style”. Originally scheduled for March 19 at the Hyatt Regency Bethesda, will be planned as a virtual fundraiser. Details to be announced.
